Murder mysteries with inbuilt character.
Mustard Seed Book Shop – Marlborough – good selection of books and wonderful coffee, cake, cheese scones. Not that I have eaten all of them recently…
Watching You Fall is Book One in the Anna Maybury mysteries. Set down in Cornwall at The Lizard. It’s a good introduction to the area and the characters. I loved this book. It had a different approach to writing about a village with more complex characters than in your usual mystery and a less predictable story line. It kept me reading and, at the end, I want to know what happens next to the characters. Mrs Susan E Beach
Falling Tide is Book Two. Also set down at The Lizard, set over five days of a retreat run by Anna Maybury and her parishioners. Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Characters are well described and grow across books… The setting of the Lizard Peninsula is also well drawn without being romanticised, the beauty and dangers are based in a reality of rural life. I particularly enjoyed the re appearance of friends met in the first book and look forward to reading the next. L Mackwell
Missing You is Book Three. This time the crew of the lifeboat reach out to Anna when one of them goes missing. The community, has deepened its relationships with each other, and with those in the village. Anna is at her best and her worst. I so enjoyed this book, third in the series so I really felt that I knew the characters, and will definitely miss them now I’ve finished. A great plot, which had me guessing to the end. Hope there will be another in the series. Mrs S Darling.
The reason I have written the above is that one or two people didn’t know that book 3, Missing You was out and weren’t sure of the order.
Other encouraging news is that Watching You Fall, book 1, has been chosen by the Mustard Seed Reading Group as their next book. And I know it costs slightly more than the big publisher offerings, but small independent publishers have their place. They often publish books that are not celebrity driven but have to be good quality, because they are putting their incomes on the line, to support unknown authors. Just now and again, buy a book from one of the smaller publishing houses, so we don’t lose this important underbelly of books and writing.
