When I Write…

Saturday 18th May 2024

Sore hips and a garden that has gone a bit wild. I am missing my helper, currently doing her exams. So I am gardening for half an hour and then coming in and doing something sedentary for half an hour. And my new rule of life, is don’t expect to get it all done, but a couple of square feet will do today.

One of the joys of working with young people, for pretty much most of my adult life, is that occasionally they come back for a chat. It is such a pleasure to see them, to remember what they were like when you first met them, and to marvel at their journey. Some of them even have children of their own. It reminds me to remember that nothing is ever wasted. That though I am very definitely in a new phase of life, the past is part of it. Makes you who you are now, etc.

Writing has very definitely taken a back seat just recently. But I did get a bit of a frisson when I chatted about a book that is still embryonic. Wondered if I should go back to it. Gardening is easier and yet when I write, I feel his pleasure.
