Bears in the Flowers

Saturday 10th September 22

Whenever I go anywhere, I want to write a story about the place. Use the setting to its best advantage. So while at the Wisley Flower Show, which was just an excuse for some floral retail therapy, I spent the day looking for good places to stash the bodies. Then I people watched for good characters and then I mused on the difference between the long views across the gardens and the little hidden gems you found by peering over a fence, see the gorgeous bear, below.

Writing is all about the long view, but with lots of moments that invite you to peer over the wall, to invite you into the detail. Hopefully, prose that draws you in and makes you wonder! Marriage is also like that, and come to think of it, so is everything else. Stand back, move in close, the same view, different perspective. And I say again that Falling Tide is a very good price at the moment on Amazon. Sorry for those who don’t do Amazon. It should still be orderable from your local bookshop, or available in the flesh at Devizes Books and Malmesbury Abbey and Mustard Seed at Marlborough.

NEW BOOK: OUT 12TH AUGUST
David and Abigail's story as told by her handmaidens.
Radiant
In this compelling account of Abigail and David’s romance, author Kirsty A. Wilmott provides an in-depth look at the life and struggles of her characters. Surrounded by handmaidens, Abigail is both instigator of her destiny as well as victim of her circumstances – a woman who understands what is needed for her and her family to survive – and who fearlessly acts to protect them. Those closest to Abigail tell the heartachingly beautiful story of two lovers struggling under the pressures of a kingdom not yet established and the ensuing political pragmatism that ultimately tears them apart.
